14 Red Foxes

14 Red Foxes

A Poem by Scott H.
"

Run run you can't catch me

"

“14 Red Foxes”

Fourteen swift red foxes

Go a-running on their flight

A-jumping and a-yipping

Making mischief in the night

Two of these red foxes

Post their sentry on the fence

A-laughing and a-yipping

As the other twelve go hence

Four of those red foxes find

Where the farmer keeps the hay

A-thrashing and a-yipping

Setting fire where it lay

Four more of those red foxes

Strike the coop upon the hour

A-singing and a-yipping

As the chickens they devour

The final four red foxes steal

Themselves into the home

A-gorging and a-yipping

Eat the family to the bone

Fourteen red foxes turn into

A single black one on the road

A-hunting and a-yipping

And a-coming for your soul

It read like a folk story too! I highly enjoyed this. I was drawn to it because I love foxes, and then reading it made me smile. It was very clever. Great write :)
