A Mariner's TaleA Poem by Scott H.Rivers, lakes, oceans"A Mariner's Tale"
There is magic happening here That my Cancer's sensibilities Delight in As I am naturally drawn towards Rivers, lakes, oceans For what more primal force On earth is there than The flowing of a river, More constant than the centuries They carve and shape - Their slow, gurgling laughter Brings me to tranquility As does the sun reflected in The waves that crest a lake Like sapphires made fluid, Only to turn to a mirror of Dark obsidian beneath the moon. Erie, Yellowstone, Ontario, Michigan and Pontchartrain - I have looked for the Lady Who lives in them all And I have stood ankle-deep In the North Sea, Connected through it to the open ocean And the lifeblood of the planet, So vast in its entirety that I felt a sense of finally belonging To something greater than myself But also a respectful fear - For the seas, too, have their furies And who knows what secrets Lay in the depths of the sea And who knows what secrets Lay in the depths within me. © 2008 Scott H. |
