Salutation to the SunA Poem by Scott H.Inspired by a yoga class"Salutation to the Sun"
Back in the Ancestral Days Our world revolved around you, Not just the motion of the planet but Also in terms of the Spirit. We gave you names like Ra, Built stone circles to monitor The seasons of your movement, Made ornate palaces so high that We might climb the sky To touch your golden face Until you were eclipsed by A Son of a different name. Yet you should have no fear while You're up there fusing hydrogren, For your worship still continues. Your shrines are made of golden sand With names like Mediterranean, The postulants lined up in rows For you to caress their barren skin With bronzing rays and kisses. I who owe allegiance to the Moon Give you thanks after my fashion, For you have saved me once again From the frosty grip of winter. Here now is my prayer, my song, My heathen dance beneath the sky. Now I am posed like the Mountain, Now I am the Upward-Facing Dog - Basking in your warming gaze I give my Salutation to the Sun.
