The Night is Cold and Devoid of Stars

The Night is Cold and Devoid of Stars

A Poem by Scott H.
"

Wintertime isn't my season

"

“The Night is Cold and Devoid of Stars”

The night is cold and

Devoid of stars,

No light save for the moon

Which winks at me

With eye half-closed,

Turns the lake into obsidian

As I drive past

Searching for the spirits

That quicken to the air,

Looking for the blue lights

In the passing windows,

The ones that guide them on

Their voyage through

These black and solemn hills

But here there are none,

Just the reflection of my headlights

On a light dusting of snow

That sweeps the driveway,

Each flake glimmering and

Dancing like a faerie or

Better yet the stars

So absent from the sky,

At least I know now

Where they’ve been hiding.

On nights like this

I make my peace with winter.
