Hades' Bargain with Demeter

Hades' Bargain with Demeter

A Poem by Scott H.
"

Written while angry and blameful at Winter, and would have done anything for Spring

"

“Hades’ Bargain with Demeter”

Six seeds planted
Can grow a floral garden,
Hydrangeas and forget-me-nots
In a lush bouquet of green
That blooms throughout the spring
Right through to autumn
When they yield back
Six more seeds to start again.

Six seeds eaten
Can halt the flow of seasons
When they are from the pomegranate
And all the thriving flowers die
Beneath the crushing weight
Of a mother’s frozen tears.
Six seeds sealed
Hades’ bargain with Demeter.

(Damn that w***e Persephone
For this is all her doing.)

The imagery is endless. The words flourish. This is the prime of free-verse poetry!

Deep mythological storytelling. Great imagery though!
