The Metronome of Rain

The Metronome of Rain

A Poem by Scott H.
"

Exploring both the rhythmic and sensual natures of one of my favourite things, rain

"

"The Metronome of Rain"

The metronome of rain

Beats against the pavement

In stacatto bursts

As it falls from above

In a curtain of glass

That hangs across the landscape,

A shimmering veil

That separates the worlds of

The rain-tossed and the dry.

The sky, once blue,

Is now gray-clad,

Weeping its sorrowful tears

Upon the bosom of the lakes

With the intimate delicacy of

The much-missed touch of a lover.

The metronome of rain

Slaps against my face

With stiletto sharpness,

Flooding my soul with

A torrent of hopes

That permeate every capillary,

An irridescent wish that

Unites my mind with

The unadulterated call of the flesh.

My heart, once barren,

Is saturated anew,

Pulsing with diluvial vigor

To warm the blood in my veins

Against the rain's languid chill like

The much-needed touch of a lover.

This piece is a few years old, I just rewrote the second stanza a bit as I retyped it here. Dropped the bit about funerary rites in exchange for the deluge.

The title of this poem is what caught me first. I love the rain and wish it rained all the time, though if it did I'd sicken of it. I like these lines because it implies that the rain is, in fact, another world entirely...made me think of the whole time continuum theme.

A shimmering veil
That separates the worlds of
The rain-tossed and the dry.

I admire the way that you have used the rain to replenish YOU not just the land around you. You are reborn, again with desire and humanity. Great work.

I loved the title. The poem itself was good, but I felt it needed more. Of what? I dont' know. All I know it was missing a piece.

The vivid imagery in this poem is fantastic!

The combination of words related to the human body and the rain in nature is well done.
I could feel the pulsing and the rhythm, the warmth and chill.

Outstanding!

Beautiful writing. Very discriptive.
