Fair Adelaide

Fair Adelaide

A Poem by RaymondoftheWoods
"

24 line ode?

"
Adelaide, Adelaide of Umber Hair,
Drooping, dropping listlessly over a brook,
Adelaide, Adelaide take tender care
Nodding, Nodding over a book.

Why Sweet Adelaide, Why? Sweet Adelaide, why?
I see you quiver and I know you silently cry,
Dear Adelaide is what you bear so bad
That you must to your books retreat?

Sweet Adelaide, why be it that I, Jason,
Find you in your defeat?
You amber eyes are soft, yet unrevealing,
Your carriage is proud, yet not unfeeling,
Don't hide your feelings so, Fair Adelaide,
I can tell you are sad and lost and blue,
Do not hide your misery so, poor Adelaide,
Comfort yourself with stories in rainbow hues,
Keep hope and sleep, dream dreams,
Dreams of gaiety and flower blooms all a glowing,
Keep Faith and sing songs a-jolly,
Songs of children at play,
For a day shall come when you need not
Droop Over a Brook
and a day shall come when Adelaide
Need Not be nodding, nodding over a book.
