Jamie LeeA Poem by piperThis is a poem I wrote for my daughter. This was chosen to be included in The Paper Lantern, the literary magazine published yearly by my college, Normandale Community College in Bloomington, MNI had a little girl With white blond hair Long and silky, like spun gold Her smile lit up the room, her laugh was infectious She was the apple of her daddy’s eye. She is a woman now, All grown up With a child of her own She is a mother a teacher a student Still the apple of her daddy’s eye Although sometimes she wonders. How can a mother say how proud she is? How she admires her poise and her determination She works so hard Day by day she is discovering life, And discovering that her mommy was right Life is not always a bed of roses, But if you can avoid the thorns the smell is nice. She has lots of time To find out who she will be But I already know She is a mother, a teacher and a beautiful woman Strong and proud Humble and kind A daughter that makes her mother proud Every day I watch her grow I watch her struggle I watch her laugh and cry, I cry with her But mostly we laugh, and love, and live. We are kindred spirits Best friends Confidants We are strong capable women We think for ourselves We love We live © 2015 piperReviews
