These Ties That Bind

These Ties That Bind

A Poem by Shawna

These gods we place as idols
These men we call our heroes
These visions we once had
Just vacant eyes and empty dreams
Are all that's left
The tears we cried
The blood we shed
It was all in vain
The loves we lost
The lies we've said
Are haunting us again
Are you afraid of the dark?
Are you afraid of truth?
Do the little tales you tell
Spark some light in you?
Insidious are your intents
Delirious are your views
These ties that bind us
Cannot save us from the real you
