Look at What You've Done

Look at What You've Done

A Poem by Megan Harris

These walls are closing in on me
I've kept to myself too long
The words you spoke
The life you broke -
Here laying in pieces
Well it took a year
But I'm whole again
Hiding behind my barriers
It took a life time -
To fall in love
To give everything up
From the moment I opened
My locked door to you
I watched you slash,
bruise, terrorize this heart of mine
So now it sits -
Like a pretty bird,
A canary that softly sings
Songs of delicate love
That will never be.

Very nicely done. It was a great read.

"From the moment I opened
My locked door to you..."

Does not signify the beginning of a relationship but that point in a relationship where you feel you can finally open up and share your whole self with someone - about [1 year in for me]. In very many of my relationships at that point I begin to get taken advantage of by the person I'm with, because they finally know how vulnerable I am. So since, it happened to me, it's completely believable.

Wow. Forceful imagery here.
However, it's a little unbelievable.
