Carta de Amor

Carta de Amor

A Poem by Megan Harris

Closing eyes to find fields
Greenery burning with flowers
Floral yellow flowing boundless
I'm reaching out to touch
My hand passing through silk
Your skin subtle - whispering
"Settle this."
Fingers tracing facial features
Pressing up against one another
Tracing nails along bones
Connecting imperfections -
Transversing fingers fall
On to each other
Clasped in expectation
I feel you - glittering like silver ore
Wrapped inside my palm
Even though you are not there at all
Next to you -
I can let the whole world pass by
You are as close as it gets
Without laying hands on me
I didn't plan this -
But it ends this way.
You standing five feet away
We are separated by endlessness
Never stopping - pushing - harder,
Farther than ever before, away
Your eyes spark when they meet mine -
Just like always, every time
Never fading, burning blue,
My own are dimming
Flickering in the winds of my mind
They are screaming,
"Give up on love, give up on him", I
Cover them so they will become unlit
