Patron Saint of the Lonely People

Patron Saint of the Lonely People

A Poem by pinksnowboots
"

A poem inspired by the Beatles song, Eleanor Rigby.

"

When you feel alone,
like you're different
and nobody can relate
to anything that you feel,
remember
Eleanor Rigby,
Patron Saint of the Misunderstood
watches over you.

When you feel empty
in a room full of people
and that you're utterly lonesome
and nobody else exists,
remember
Eleanor Rigby,
Patron Saint of the Lonely
watches over you.

When you feel jilted
and your friends have left you out
home alone on a Friday night
with no messages in your inbox,
remember
Eleanor Rigby,
Patron Saint of the Uninvited
watches over you.

Eleanor Rigby,
Patron Saint of the Lonely People
watches over you.

In the seventh line of the third stanza, would "unwanted" or "unloved" sound better than "uninvited"?

This piece is poignant, I think anyone can relate to these words, which is the point of writing after all. And it does inspire me to research Eleanor Rigby!

In answer to the question in your note, no I don't think those particular substitutions would work as well. I like it the way you wrote it. I can definitely identify with all these feelings. We've all been left out before, some more than others, and me more than most it seems at times. Loneliness is no stranger to me unfortunately. =o( I enjoyed reading this piece. As always, take care, and thanks for sharing. =o)
