Soul of Valor
A Poem by phoenix on the rise
day in the life of a modern warrior
The faces of innocent children are still in my mind Thoughts of their screaming, Images of their crying expressions.
Campfire spirits are all around me. Restless dreamers search for sleep, Guilty parties pray for absolution.
Home seems so far away from here. The restless jungle is all around, and the midnight hour is the daily call.
How I long for the comfort of family and home. The happiness of security, The joy of daily monotony.
But the war is at home as well. Two sides dividing every issue, Two leaders commanding every clueless army.
War and peace are convincing causes, One granting dominion, One granting calm.
But what does it matter? At least I'll be honored when I return.. Least I will be cared for..... |

I gotta say, you did a great amount of work, here. You describe the mindset of a soldier nearly perfectly, and yet it seems as though you add some depth in this particular soldier; you build his character. And in this poem of describing the general soldier of any era and any place, there's some background in describing, what seems to be, his family life, or lack thereof.
Nice work!
