Rejection by the SeaA Poem by Yira SimoneYou tell me...
Rejection by the Sea
It is the letting go,
That quiet rejection
Of another
In the wee hours of the mourn
That stir the waves of the sea
In constant agitation,
An obligation to say good-bye.
As the moon pull time away,
Words go astray,
Lost in the tides,
Whitewashed by the rocks,
All is forgiven.
Forgotten.
Forever
Buried on the ocean floors.
Yet the speechless remain,
Broken like bottles on the beach,
Fragments of their former selves.
Sun glistened pieces that fade
With each passing hour.
In the still of the night,
It is not the seagulls that
We hear, scampering for food.
Nor, the horns of ships
Disappearing into the darkness.
It is the labored breaths
That wheeze farewell,
Because this is how we say hello.
Know this,
It is the letting go,
That quiet rejection
Of another
That reeks of old seaweeds,
Dead crabs
And
Rotted sand dollars
That tells our story,
A fabled tale of rejection by the sea.
