One Summer Twilight

When softly sings the lullaby

Of Summer breezes through the trees

And twilight lingers, warm and slow

It is melancholy the dying day embraces.

 

I feel a certain insignificance

Among the greater scheme

As the day-lily's vivid bloom closes toward slumber

It's duty fulfilled.

 

I listen... quietly listen

for the last and final trill of Robin's song

To float across the air

As the ethereal darkness descends.
