How Many?A Poem by Phoenix
How many secrets never shared?
How many a man never cared
Enough to know
Our crosses borne in silence?
How many lies?
How many blind eyes
Have looked
Yet never seen?
How many tears have been cried?
How many souls have died
Crushed by the burdens
Forced to bear alone?
How many a child has been forsaken?
How many lives have been taken
By the wounds
That can never, ever heal?
How many minds have been corrupted?
How many innocents have suffered
These terrors
Frightened, cold and alone?
How many wrongs have never been righted?
How many times has anyone sighted
The Fiends
Lurking in our own backyards?
How many voices have never been found?
How many of us have been let down
By those
Who are sworn to protect us?
How many daughters have been killed by their fathers,
Not once,
But over and over again?
How many are broken
Without even a token
Of the hope they so desperately seek?
How many were lost,
And at what cost
To you, the blind masses?
How many more screams will never be heard?
How many lessons must we learn
To put a stop to all of this?
