Billet-doux to a Monster

Billet-doux to a Monster

A Poem by Phoenix

Thanks for the nightmares,
Thanks for the fear,
For the broken reflection I see in the mirror.
Thanks for the ever-weeping wounds
Oozing through white hot nights...
Nights when sleep escapes me,
When I’m in your grasp,
And there is no greater pain than a memory.

Thank you for the stillness
After the tears are spent,
For firing the vessel
And steeling it against lesser winds.
Thank you for showing me first the worst,
So all that remains is only the better.
Thank you for the knowledge that
Hell has no chains and everyone can fly,
And freedom is a state of mind
But also a choice.
