Rush Limbaugh's Brain

Rush Limbaugh's Brain

A Poem by T. R. Phillips
"

Compassionate surgery for a compassionate conservative

"

A MidMorning Night's Dream:

Galaxies of pinpoint facts in starry lies

stream Confusion's bright blue midnight skies.

Look closely at the half his brain behind his back.

Untie it now, or failing that, arrange compassionate

surgery stat!  Secure with  clamp each soft

gray layer, pulsing, damp; remove, with

utmost tender care, growth of ulterior motive

there, physical structure of heedless act or word;

cull dark-stained bacterial taint of secret labor’s

hire beneath the ultraviolet lamp; excise pewter-

tongued complaint; reroute, restitch and splice

a path around the avarice; bind Mercury

and accumulated lead; unwind whatever else we

find tied or iced behind his head, a triple bypass

there instead -

“. . .not, not always, like this, I,  I remember once,

the brightest light, to my experience, reflected

from a rain-recent puddle I was running by,

chasing who knows what one more time

after mother called to lunch.  A gust of

wind just then faceted its surface,

sending intense quick shards of white

gold sunlight in all directions,

a silent explosion like a fountain!"

Now we might see what's not heard,
a shape gold-flickering between each word
and next, in diastole beneath both halves apart,
"the organ of intelligence, which is the heart."

Author's Note

T. R. Phillips
Note: Rush Limbaugh says he does his show with half his brain tied behind his back. Aristotle said, "Man has a soul, and the soul is rational, and the rational soul resides in the organ of intelligence, which is the heart." Mercury is the Roman god of eloquence and thievery, not necessarily in that order. Limbaugh has repeatedly made the bold statement, "There are certain thoughts that are larger than ourselves," without attributing this statement to its rightful owner, Philolaus of Tarentum.
