When I sleep, I dream

When I sleep, I dream

A Poem by nigrum homonculus
"

About my mother and her land. My origins.

"

When I sleep I dream

Dreams of such lucidity

The beauty of my mother’s land

The beauty of its poverty

When I sleep I dream,

Of the house that she grew up in

With her 7 brothers and sisters

Living in a bungalow but sharing the hope within

When I sleep I dream,

Of the stories she would tell me

How she worked 50 degree heat

Just so her siblings had food to eat

When I sleep I dream,

Of how she punched a lover in the face

Simply because it was a disgrace

To the land she so willingly embraced

When I sleep I dream,

Dreams of such lucidity

But when I wake I see,

These plane tickets have made this a reality.
