Starlight

Starlight

A Poem by philliewig

Lying in an intersection, 4th and River Street,
Painted in the colors of the sun.
God only knows how you understand this,
but you soldier on anyways,
bright and brilliant like the starlight in a summer sky,
shining on until the dying gale of the stars so bright,
shining on until the dying wails of our sun so bright.

Dancing at the crossroads, a dirt path in the countryside,
glowing with the colors of the sun.
God only knows how you can stand this,
but you soldier on anyways,
brilliant and magnificent in every way,
from head to toe to the slight curls in your hair,
how they wave so ever slightly,
betraying their true nature to our eyes,
betraying my own nature, I lean in closer to surmise
and am drawn in by your magnetic charming fire.

Up upon the stage so high, in penthouse galleries, a rooftop premiere,
shining golden across the night sky,
God only knows how you can manage,
but you have, and so much more.
Like fire, burning, your luminance beckons,
and shines bright across all of our faces,
faces past, faces future, faces present,
present for your moment of triumph.

Applause for the triumph and rest for the weary,
we gaze on, smiling.
