The Scarlet PalaceA Poem by phantomquill
That palace has turned into a dreadful den
Where latter dwells with egocentric brutes Of callous hearts and enclosed minds Social approval must they crave Self-centered happiness must they lust With one possession they cherish most That furry coat of darling fragrance Emblazoned with greatness and admiration No hoi polloi would dare to scratch One principle-laden and unique cub Dauntless and free to touch the shiny light That shiny light holds eternal joy But dictator lions extinguished it with might Shackled and wounded that sorry cub Forbidden with eternal joy and rightful freedom Now locked in sturdy cell of heartless Caesar With wounded flesh and a bleeding heart And with the scarlet ground he swore To loath and never forgive those fangs who bit Has cast a spell of no antidote That the herd will never be complete And the band has lost a vestigial member. © 2015 phantomquill |
