The Lepidopterist

The Lepidopterist

A Poem by Transience
"

butterfly,oh butterfly.......where do you fly away?

"

In that wonderful garden of seeds,

Latent and growing,

He chased them as a child,

Those beautiful butterflies

Coquetting before his simple charms-

Mud adorned shirt and large smiles

On tiny face of delight

But eluded him,those flower fairies.

Butterfly time fluttered away

And in that wonderful garden of seeds,

Latent and growing,

He chases them, a man

Flying after rainbow flights

Daphne-dancing before his charms-

A plush suit and little joy

On his handsome face earnest.

Clawing hands wrench the wings

This time, encasing them in precious glass

His bliss feral, so unlike the one

During uncaught butterflies;

He returns triumphant, not knowing

His prize is plastic---

 Entombed the real ones lie

In an Eden he .long abandoned.

really appreciate it.thanks...
Such a shocking choice of words! Soft, subtle and simultaneously a vicious one-two-three knockout punch to the sensibilities that launch the reader into this amazing rendition of the arc-of-life. I had to read it several times. I _wanted_ to read it several times. It so complex. So full of nuance. Nicely done!

Smiling...
Enjoyed. Butterflies have long been a symbol of immortality, and also sometimes representing spirits of the dead (which I well understand, having seen dramatic evidence). Good that you made more of them than something transient)
