Ode to the Liar

Ode to the Liar

A Poem by petty102

i am not your chew toy and i will not be tricked. your beseeching facade of cheer will tear you down and devour you alive. eat your sorrow and spit out your anger, but don’t spit on me because i push back i push back hard. i’ve told you i don’t like you, i’ve told you i love you -- but everything i say is a lie because love and dislike and like alike are all alien in the room of our chagrin. you won’t agree. you never do. and that’s why still you can hate me, still you can press your thumbs to my eyes and squeeze until they stop. if it hurts you so much to leave me then don’t, don’t leave, just give me your palms and surrender to my wiles so we can love our hate and bittersweet dismay. i don’t dislike you. everything i say is a lie. spit your anger on me so i can swallow your tears. i won’t push back. i’ll scream but i won’t push back.
