LITTLE SUNBEAM

LITTLE SUNBEAM

A Poem by Peter Rogerson
"

So the spring is upon us and there's warmth from the sun...

"

Speed, little sunbeam,
From your home in the sky,
Speed to our gardens,
A light from on high,
And with warmth, little sunbeam,
For hearts too long cold,
Rivers of bright light
As the springtime unfolds.

Rejoice, little sunbeam
At the welcome you find
We've been waiting for ages
And you're suddenly kind;
Touch us, little sunbeam,
Banish the storm
So calming, sweet sunbeam,
So bright and so warm.

They have died, little sunbeam
Since last time you came,
Perished in winter,
So you're not to blame
But touch, for a moment,
Their last resting place,
So the shadows of shining
Will rest on their face.

I love this playful, descriptive story. I can feel the absolute affection that the narrator has for this phenomenon "Sunbeam" (much more than a simple ray from the sun). This is a very original way to address how the seasons can have a huge effect on some of us. Everyone has a favorite season & most of us love the sunny ones best. You've packed this poem with many of the observations that brighten up our days, when the sun is shining in our lives.
