A Cruel Identity

A Cruel Identity

A Poem by Persephone

Lonely

An identity I cling to with ferocity

Don’t take it

I want you

But it frightens me

What else do I have?

If I’m not a single…What am I?

Who am I?

A man’s? A husband’s?

A possession…..

I may fight

I may run

I may curse your name

But it’s only the fear of losing

The loneliness

It’s all I’ve ever known

I like it. It's like Identities and Persona's. Like your name's Persephone. She was the Daugter of Demetar and Zeus and was forced to Marry her totally weird uncle Hades. That was a messed up story. Where was I going with this? Oh yeah. Persephone is an archetype and an Archetype is an Idenity and this poem is called "A cruel Identity." Persephone's story is one of betrayal, abduction & cruelty but through her experience she became the queen of the underworld. I get all these connections from this which is totally awesome. I hope that makes sense. It does in my brain but sometimes I mudle the explanation. Thanx

You truly speak so deeply into the nature of our existence... our identity as people... singles and couples... alone or in a relationship... Do we significantly alter ourselves when we have a signficant other? You're so right to relate the fear... the apprehension of holding back... loving another, if nothing else, forces attention on someone other than me... sometimes that's unbearable. So profoundly moving, Persephone.

Thank you so much Craig for the wonderful review! I'm glad you enjoyed it :)
Loneliness, what a emotion, cold empty? no like here part of you, your identity,A blanket you can pull out of a backpack,Yours it fits snug barefoot leather shoe snug, holiday- empty fragrant smokey memories, ashtray butts, erasing you, throwing you bathwater and baggage ...out... thanksgiving old men together , no call no family call,no friend, just no... no grace, empathy, no snug blanket to curl around you.You are you, stand ,square your shoulders smile and breath, great now do it again.
