My Wary CompanionA Poem by PersephoneWary of the world My canine friend came cautiously into my life
He is imperfect, yet as am I Therefore what right do I have to ask perfection of him?
Where since childhood I have been overly trusting of others Opening my arms wide to the tall strangers above me
He cowers from it all Untrusting, stubborn, and afraid
Perhaps I have a thing or two to learn from my imperfect friend For he sheds no tears as a man leaves his life and it’s as if I cannot stop crying
