Hollow Pursuits

Hollow Pursuits

A Poem by My Phoenix Project
"

A realization

"
I never really understood the term "Hollow Pursuits."
Until Now.

I had you, thought I'd lost you, found you, then tried to pursue you.
But you were long gone.
I was clinging to a distant memory of a fantasy never realized.
Chasing a hope, a life...never to be mine.

I thought a different choice, a different path
would lead me home, fulfilled.
But in the end the same decisions and same fear,
kept me where I've always been.

It's all hollow, all empty, big words with no meaning.
I find myself alone again and realize I never dealt with this feeling.

The Chase is done, I am alone, all efforts solidify this truth.
I guess I finally understand the term, "Hollow Pursuits."

Author's Note

My Phoenix Project
You ever have a word or phase turn over and over in your head and then suddenly it clicks, and you just GET it? That's what this felt like, so I wrote it down. Constructive critiques are welcome.

I understand completely. I think many will relate to that sense of ungratified effort.
