The Pantry in the KitchenA Poem by BenjaminThe pear sat perplexed in the pantry. His life was just sitting, patiently pretending he knew more of the world.
So the pear peered through the door into the lore and legends of the outside.
But
he was in a precarious state on the edge of a ledge and forgot-- pears cannot peer without pretending.
So he plummeted past the pampered plums
down
past
the tomatoes who tittered and
down
past
the carrots who could care less
until
splat--Flat was the pear who peered, fallen while the fruits and vegetables leered.
So remember: pears are curious creatures, let them sit on a table, not in the pantry.
