Chris Hani

Chris Hani

A Poem by Percy Dludlu

Chris Hani…

When mortality blinded him… he saw

He held the future like a mother holding her baby,

Emancipation rang more than ideas do… he fed himself in implementations,

A man filled with so much character… a philosopher, comrade, a father.

Charged with so much responsibility, leaders trusting in his ability, his nobility,

A peace maker, life changer, a stubborn embracer, a son of Sabalele village,

His legend lives in the innermost part of those whom he crossed path with, a believer,

His was a man of integrity, unyielding in his convictions, his notions moved mountains.

Fountains flowing from him like Mary’s perfume,

He believed in education, that the future is cemented on those whose willing hearts beat on word rhythms,

That wrong is no match to right, and being right at times is not always enough.

Lala Chris… may the birds of heaven carry you through,

For the ground is not fit to keep you,

We have lost a hero… ithemba lethu.

Hamba kahle Mkhonto wesizwe.
