Between Land and SeaA Poem by peppino ruggeriMemoriesI often stand in
front of my bay window Of the Tyrrhenian Sea the sight behold Over that green water I take flight Gliding on the wings of my own thought Of Stromboli I see the dark smoke rise Embracing the grey clouds that are passing by Through the alleys of my memory I meander No longer I feel the beat of my own heart Beckons the past, the present makes demands Illusions become naked to the eye Night dreams evaporate in soupy fog When by the morning sun it is dispersed The green of the sea calls from afar The vastness through oblivion offers peace I would love to go, but fear restrains The land holds back my will and my desire Pierced by sorrow, my heart is loath to follow The noble flight of my restless mind In front of my bay window I remain, In the infinite my thought wanders in vain © 2022 peppino ruggeri |
