In Memory of George Floyd

In Memory of George Floyd

A Poem by peppino ruggeri
"

human rights

"

George

I watched your meek surrender

Pinned to the ground by a lethal knee

I heard your wrenching plea

“I cannot breathe, I cannot breathe”

Your eyes crying for signs of heaven’s grace

Though now your tongue is mute

I can still hear your voice

Resounding from a place

Where skin is tinted with hue of love

A gentle soul is not consumed by hate

Fear does not ordain the human fate

I see you still

Your knee in prayer bent

"May the oppressors own their brutal deeds

That trampled human rights and dignity

May peace fill wounded hearts of those who pine

Who never saw the light of justice shine

I see your face, I hear your cry

"May repentance by forgiveness be redeemed

All hearts be healed, the present be made whole”

On that prayer America’s destiny will lie

Only as maid of justice can she live

Soulless she will die

A heartfelt Eulogy of a poem. One that I'm touched by reading. This is the history we fight for, and that a segment of our populace seeks to bury and hide from. It reflects a point in time that shows the inequality of our judicial system and failures of justice. This society can no longer be blinded, nor indifferent to the hatred that has infiltrated our laws. This moment in time was an example that very little has changed since the Civil War decided our civility towards one another as countrymen. Had Jan 6th insurrection occurred from a mob of minorities would they have been treated in equal justice? If we are being honest with ourselves I don't think so. We need to come to terms with the fact that lady justice is no longer blind nor carries scales of truth. Instead she has a smart phone linked to Twitter raging against faithless, unpatriotic, outsiders, and anchor babies destroying the fabric of our ethno European society. Yeah, she's now a Karen. It is incumbent on us as citizens and Americans to change this vile wicked infestation of our judicial system. We either believe in equality under the law or we don't and in essence become Russia and Iran. No matter how hard they may try they will never erase George Floyd from the history books nor any other minority citizen who paid with their lives by just being an American.
