A Snowfall

A Snowfall

A Poem by peppino ruggeri

Last night the snow came down in heavy flake

Leaving a gleaming blanket on the ground

No food was left for hungry birds to take

To brace the cold, they huddled as a mound

My heart could not endure that woeful sight

I went outside, scattering seeds on the snow

Their hunger summoned, they showed no sign of fright

I stood nearby and saw them come and go

Flying up and down the barren tree

They sang with joy a happy symphony

Together they enjoyed their happy meal

Conversing with each other, it seemed to me

As in a trance, a passion filled my heart

A burning wish to join their happy flight

Beautiful work. This was a joy to read. So visual and I could see the scattering of the seeds and how the birds came to collect in the snow scape. I'd like to fly too. Thank you fir sharing.
