GrandmaA Poem by peppino ruggeriCOVIDThe sun was
bidding farewell to the day The clouds were hovering over barren land A chilly breeze caressed the leafless trees The air was filled with an uneasy peace A woman by the window stood forlorn Her glance was sad, her hair was silky white Her deep blue eyes had lost their youthful glow She silently watched the traffic come and go A car approached and stopped by the road side A child began to appear from the rear door She gazed, her heart picked up its pace She recognized the child’s protected face The girl removed her mask, displayed a smile I miss you grandma, I love you so The old woman waved unable to reply In longing silence could only watch and cry © 2022 peppino ruggeri |
