Silence

Silence

A Poem by D.L. Simmons

Silence is a darkness all its own.

It can be menacing or playful,

Threaten or beckon,

Make waves or calm  them,

The pause between words

Has its own heartbeat and rhythm

It is the eye of a hurricane

The negative space

The in-between wind

Of time unclaimed

The footsteps silenced to a whisper

Thoughts hanging in the air

Heavy with meaning

Clandestine in the

Venus flytrap of conversation.

I love the constant use of metaphors in this poem. It's makes sense without being too forward, so it gives you time to ponder before you move on to the next verse. It's all very frightingly true, and I enjoy that.
What a great piece!
