afterwards

afterwards

A Poem by Penulis Kecil

there once was a secret shore

hidden in a cave of stone where

water empties itself-

he began an expedition

destroying and defiling

everything.

dynamite tearing down

walls and caves and

all the little places we build

inside ourselves.

systematically

he pulled the wings off the fly

and exposed my cave.

an excavation team

made short work of it:

plundered and forgotten,

the promise of beauty

impaled by slats of wood

holding up empty tunnels.
