Ba-na-nanana

Ba-na-nanana

A Poem by Penulis Kecil
"

Originally this was supposed to be about how my brother's favourite food was silverbeet and how much I hated it, for a contest on here. It kind of went in its own direction instead.

"

Aged 7, I loved

bananas. Dancing,

I sang along to the ad on TV

"ba-na-nanana-ba-na-na,

ba-na-nanana,

make those bodies sing!"

My mother shopped

once a week and often

she bought them

just for me.

My brothers, the pair

of them peas in our

pod and me the offshoot -

the loose corner break-

ing away from the rest

of the family;

                       my brothers

didn't like bananas. So, aged

seven, I would take revenge

for all the wrongs

inflicted upon a sister, a

shadow, a loose corner,

by peeling skin, singing and

chasing the podded peas:

"ba-na-nanana-ba-na-na,

ba-na-nanana,

make those bodies sing!"
