friendship wasn't designed to be uni-directional

A Poem by Penulis Kecil
"

This one's the result of working through thoughts/feelings about a friendship I ended somewhat recently.

"

you were closed to me,

    eyes buttoned, ears sewn over

        shut to me,

    but your mouth was different.

that mouth of yours

            gaped

     with the pressure of you:

      split open, it revealed

           your tongue.

      the very same tongue

that blistered the sides of my face

when you spewed forth everything

and coated me in your secrets-

      a sullen limb, it now

lies dormant, there in the bowl of your jaw.

you were a pineapple allergy,

       unintentional.

       your poison so sweet

again and again, blindly

i bit into you.

from you i learned

you need not bear malice to break a heart.

You are perhaps kinder and more reflective than I am. I recently ended one and wrote a scathing diatribe, saying much of what you said here, perhaps more. I ma sorry for the pain that comes with ending close associations, though. It hurts like nothing else. Hope you have been able to find peace in your decision.

If you want to see mine, it is called, "Counting Coup".

A poem that takes a step back and looks closely at what drew one person into a relationship with another... and the after effects. So precisely and deliciously well expressed in a narrative that expands way beyond the lines of the poem. I love this description of a silenced tongue:

" a sullen limb, it now
lies dormant, there in the bowl of your jaw."
