To A Friend

To A Friend

A Poem by Penulis Kecil
"

A simple piece about friendship.

"
I'm tired and I lie
empty
as part of me yearns for your company
that we may sit
squashed up together
melding, melting,
becoming one.

your head on my shoulder
my hands clasped
around the body they hold
to me,
your body,
and we do nothing.

and we do nothing
but sit
and be,
like this.

'A simple piece about friendship' - does exactly as it says on the tin :) Love the repetition of 'and we do nothing' because for me, that emphasises the comfortability of friends which is the most important thing. It flows well and it makes you think, which is always a great addition to a poem. I enjoyed it. :)

I don't know if you've ever heard of Ellen Hopkins, but she writes novel lenght poems in a similar style. My favorite book by her is Impulse. This poem reminded me a lot of the friends i used to have, and i think the scattered stanza's give a kind of jolting sincerity...if that makes any sense. i really liked it :D
