The new emperor’s buttonhole

The new emperor’s buttonhole

A Poem by Pendantry
"

I always donate to the Royal British Legion, but I won't wear a plastic flower.

"
Remembrance Sunday’s long ago,
Lost in the christmas crush.
I wore no poppy, this time round,
Honouring those who gave their lives…
For what?

The freedom so dearly bought
Handed to a breed of sloths:
Nearsighted career politicos,
Slacking. Understanding lacking
The effects of exponential growth.

We can ‘choose’ to vote for one lot;
We can ‘choose’ to vote for the other;
Berated, derided, ‘apathetic’ (!)
Should we choose to simply
Not.

Elected leaders will not change
A system gifting power.
Illusory ‘mandates’ should be shown
To bloom a plastic flower.
