The Pine TreeA Poem by PaigeTranscendentalism: holding that the key to knowledge of the nature of reality lies in the critical examination of the processes of reason on which depends the nature of experienceJust after a rainstorm, I stood below a big, tall pine tree, looking at the wide trunk that supports the tree that reaches towards the sky, A pinecone dropped from one of the long branches, And fell right in front of me, landing in a puddle of water,
It plopped down in the water, spraying me with the
earth’s tears, As I bent down and picked it up, The pinecone was in perfect condition, The water kept it safe, safe, safe
Why can your spine reach so tall? Towering over us all, You house creatures in your bark skin, Sheltering them from the outside world,
You have enemies as we do, Stripping us from ourselves, Forcing us to just keep going on, And adjust to the environment and people around us You can live for days, weeks, months, years, decades, And still remain on this earth © 2014 PaigeReviews
