Know What To Hold On To

let people be, and just fly free

Know what to hold on to.

 

As you course through the big blue

Be weary where currents may carry you,

 

For waves will viciously crash into and subdue

Your distinctive scarlet hue

As they reduce the spirited flame in you

To mere specks of pale residue

 

Leaving only a faint reflection of you

In the vast monotonous mirror of blue

Holding far from true

To the red vibrancy that once was you.

 

Don’t you see?

They just won’t let you be!

Red blood will gush into the sea.

 

And if you continue on indifferently,         

Quite soon you will lose your ability

To distinguish the scarlet amidst the sea

 

They will come at you ceaselessly

Till there’s no more he, she or me

As they drown out all individuality

Until all that remains is the blue of the sea,

Society’s monotony.

 

Don’t yield to the tyrant’s ride,

Muster all your fire and fight the conformist tide.

Hah! Just let them try to hide

The blazing heart beating inside.

 

For now the horizon appears so wide,

As to the enslaving norms you shan’t again abide

With the shackles of convention aside,

Your soul emerges from the blue with pride.
