The Isle of Lost Dreams

The Isle of Lost Dreams

A Poem by Paul Wallace
"

No matter how much you want to simply fall into nothing, keep in life.

"

When I first came

To this island

I was happy

To get away

There was no one

To ache or pain me

Numbing nothing

My only friend

The ocean’s rhythm

Rocked me to sleep

Each dusk though

Was each dawn

Spending each night

Looking in the stars

But the hours

They grew so empty

The gentle rhythm

Faded away

The perfect exile

Gave me pain

I was lost then

So truly lost

Then I saw her

Simply waiting there

Waiting for me

In the waves

She beckoned me

Back out to sea

Away from this isle

Where dreams rest

Back to reality

Why must I go?

To the painful world

That pushed me here

But I went back

For my soul

No matter how bad

This world may be

No matter the pain

Love will overcome

No island can fill

The gap craving warmth

No ocean’s rhythm

Can fill a heart’s

A heart beside you

A heart that loves you

Lost dreams come there

To try to taste sweet love

I hope to return again

To the Isle of Lost Dreams
