the city

the city

A Poem by paul

traffic lights parlay

alternating like day
and night.

only infinity
in the way

and out of sight.

the canyons that the buildings make

contain dreams
and ghostly
light.

An infinitely urban mosaic of isolation in the middle of all the buzz - your words almost protect those dreams from ghostly light.

Oh, I like the streak of fatalism that runs through this poem and the hint of bigger forces at play. Brilliant!

umm, this is deep and profound.
perhaps beyond my simple mind.
but the colours here are like a water colour in the rain, all running together

I can see this. This looks to me like the weird moment at twilight when things like traffic lights and the cityscape look oddly out of place.

the mysteries of a city.. you see into those so well. the little space there is existing between the moving people and lights and cars and the monumental structures (like canyon walls... such an image) seems heavier in the cities... laden. full of infinity and dreams and ghostly light. it's a beautiful love letter to a city. letting her know that you see her secrets. and that you'll keep them safe.
