cannot

cannot

A Poem by paul

can there never be anything
for me

not a sunrise
not a mistaken love?

can't one day love
accidentally
fall here

like a lost leaf
scattered far
by the wind

can't lions and monsters be real
in the night?

cannot the sun
wink just once

like its all been one
big joke

Perfect title... perfect cadence. My favorite image is the lions and monsters in the night. I thought that was really well placed.

to be able to write such beautiful words...is a test that the sun has already winked for you.

- and whoever the joke is on - we could still laugh our heads off about it - for once - maybe - it'd be nice to laugh our heads off at a real joke - and owe a heartbreak to a real mistake - it'd be nice to be able to trace lines back to something that was real - it'd be really nice -
what makes it real anyway? there's got to be an answer!!!

it can...and it will...you're just not looking at it the "write" way...as authors, we're all gods and goddesses of our own worlds...control it

...Wait... You mean this whole time we've been imagining this? This poem brings back memories... I like poems that are able to do that. And for some reason, I'm reminded of The Comedian in "Watchmen" (but nowhere near as cynical as that guy). Thought provoking piece of work, Sir Paul.

it's all in our heads, every bit of it

A perfectly worded wish born from desperation. I know the feeling all too damn well.

. ah! ... it would be amazing ... wouldn't it ... if it were a joke ... which it is ... and we also actually found out ... which we will ... this is one of those in-between winks of the sun moments ... sapping but needed ... for some random lust that the universe must unleash on unsuspecting fools ... perhaps it's more commonly termed life ... but i think it's a life sentence ... may it end ... the sentence ... and here ... it just did! ... :) ...

This really touched me..Paul..those lines..can there never be anything
for me not a mistaken love?..can't one day love
accidentally
fall here
like a lost leave
scattered far
by the wind
When you are reading poems at night just before going to sleep, there are only few which do manage to evoke emotion from you..:)..this one did in plenty.

never the sun, but I saw an avatar wink once . . . at the most intriguing moment, too . . . but I'm foolish, the sun is far more likely to wink than a photograph
