Blood-Red

Blood-Red

A Poem by pb
"

A poem about current events.

"

We were scared.

The economy was in shambles.

They made us do it, they were the poison of our land.

That is what they will say in ten years,

when their enemies are dead--

the women, the children, the loud and the quiet,

the innocent.

They will sit in their chairs,

tapping their feet,

wearing blood red,

and plead

I was just following orders.

We will scoff,

Us children of survivors,

and ask ourselves

How could the country ever let this happen?

Someone had to have spoken up at some point,

let everyone in on the secrets.

We will not repeat their mistakes,

we will say decades later,

and then elect another leader

with a loud voice and a blood-red garment

and a penchant for murder.

It does not matter how scared we are,

they will always claim they were terrified

and we will keep making misguided promises

until there is no one good left to make them.

Wow. That's a powerful testament for our times. They deem us "poison" because he said so and they are ruled by fear.
