The American Dream

The American Dream

A Poem by path4334
"

A poem I wrote years ago.....

"

The American Dream.

It is simple and complex.

Like flowers that haven't bloomed yet.

We have all dreamed of it and thought of it.

Like the ending of the first world war.

As the raindrops washed away the blood that spread on the concrete floor.

Representing the sacrifice that many took for the war.

The American Dream.

Soft with its touch, impactful with its presence.

Do anything, be anyone.

Meanings that can send ripples throughout the world.

Ripples, that symbolizes the effects in the world.

Freedom, is another dream.

A dream that people of the past dreamed of.

Like a caged bird wanting to spread its wings.

The bird broke his cage on the declaration of independence.

Chirping happily, for it was a new day

At the first world war we took a step.

The second, we took a leap.

A leap of faith.

The American Dream.

A dream filled with liberation.

A dream not without the cost of strife.

A dream filled with a promise.

A solemn promise that we must uphold.

A promise for the next generation.

As the last letter painted upon the right of our independence.

We realized that this was the true beginning of our dream.

The American Dream.

This is a very thoughtful take on this important subject. I read a poem called 'God bless America' by A Amos and found the views expressed by great numbers of Americam reviewers very alarming.
Would you please look at my poem 'Apocalypse now' which express my own views of British and American influence on the world.
Thanks, Alan
