Damaging DemonsA Poem by pastelrosesThis poem is about addiction. I was inspired by my husband who was addicted to hard liquor.Damaging Demons Dirty, dangerous, demons Dance deliriously in your head. They twist and turn like silky, sneaky snakes, As soon as you enter your bed You feel as though you're in hell As the fatal, flames lick your sluggish skin. You try to scream and yell But no one can hear, You're desperate cry for help. You try to fight the darkness, but you fear It is too late. There is nothing your weak, weightless body can do But wait and wait, For the dirty, demons to slice your stolid soul One careful cut at a time, So you will never be whole. You try to stand with all you're might But your body is an inflated balloon, with nothing left. Your eyes savagely seek the luminous light But you have no luck. Either you take another drink Or you're a sitting duck. The dirty, dangerous, demons will always win Even if you decide, To throw the bleeding bottle into the bin. Their fire will always burn inside you Whether you stop or give in, Its feverish flame will always affect everything you do. So as your battered body begins to shut down You have to decide, Do you want to fight or leave your family and town Forever? © 2015 pastelrosesReviews
