How could his mind be so brazen, his brush so brash,
flicking strokes so carelessly as if I didn't care. A background, nothing but dark of night, a faint green light on its far side. A few rippling moonlit traces across its lazy harbor. Oh to be in the background! So perfectly captured: the hat, the shoulders, the hands in pockets, longing captured precisely in a simple silhouette. Here in the foreground, the face you cannot see. Eyes to the light, and somewhere, invisible heart bouncing upon the waves in need of rescue. How could he? © 2012 Jim PikeAuthor's Note
