God gave me.

God gave me.

A Poem by Susie Parsley
"

I witnessed a miracle on the 31st May 2001, the short version of which was that I was baptized by God in my shower, I wrote this poem some months later gathered from inspiration of this experience.

"

God gave me a spark and placed it within,

God gave me a soul so my life could begin.

God gave me bones so I could stand,

God gave me muscles as a helping hand.

God gave me lungs that I could breathe,

God gave me air for the lungs to receive.

God gave me a brain so I could think,

God gave me a heart to keep it all in sync.

God gave me a mind to know right from wrong,

God gave me fellowship so I could belong.

God gave me this journey that I must travel,

And a load of puzzles for me to unravel.

God sent me here, God sent me there,

Where this journey ends I am unaware.

God left me clues along the way,

Love your fellow man every day.

God never told me which religion to choose,

God has made me so confused.

How can I love my fellow man,

When there exists so much division across this land.

Jesus, Muhammad and Buddha to,

Dear oh dear, so many to chose.

Then it hit me right out of the blue,

The one I should follow, “It should be YOU”.

That’s why you gave me a heart “and” a brain,

So that I could learn, “The game”.

The lesson I’ve learnt and I think God agrees,

Is that religion is definitely not for me.

Religion exists to divide mankind,

When all along, its God we should find.

God never gave me the answer, it was there all along,

To God and the human race, my heart will belong.

Brothers and sisters all living in love,

Sharing peace and unity which was a gift from above.

Regardless of skin colour, language or creed,

There is one thing that we are all agreed.

We all share this planet in our own special way,

And unto our maker we will return one day.

We all entered this world from our mother’s womb,

And we journey this life with happiness and gloom.

In a world filled with hatred and greed,

Haven’t we all forgotten what we all really need?

It’s not religion which separates and divides,

It’s God we all need in our lives.

God doesn’t live in a church or a mosque,

God lives inside each and every one of us.

God lives in a bird, God lives in a bee,

God lives within you, God lives within me.

God created this beautiful place,

God created the human race.

Satan created religion and money,

And then sat back and thought it really funny.

This word religion which should unite,

Is just an excuse for us all to fight.

For a few thousand pounds we'd kill our own brother,

For a few pound more we'd kill our own mother.

If religion and money is all that we are,

Then this truly is satans finest hour.

This journey for me has a happy end,

Because I learnt to call God my friend.

Satan to me is only a name,

Along with religion, money, greed and shame.

My fellowship is with the human race,

And not in the colour of someone’s face.

My religion is LOVE, PEACE and UNITY,

And in God's arms I'l always be. Amen.

The inspiration for this poem came from the book of Genesis chapter 1 verse 26 and three little words, “us, our and ourselves”, it changed my life and changed the way in which I seen the world and everyone on it.

Author's Note

Susie Parsley
This poem identifies my own observations of religion and the dilemmas faced when dealing with the issue of UNITY, when we were created we were not created as Christian, Muslim or Jew, these are labels we get from our parents and the society in which they were raised, I was fortunate enough to be raised in a religiously neutral environment.
