A Visitor from the Seas

A Visitor from the Seas

A Poem by Heqi Wang

Voice one: Samuel

From the distance of my towering beacon,

With its beaming rays of light constantly searching for life

For any lone sailor over the murderous waves

On a dark and gloomy night,

I am vigilantly searching

For a speckled craft

Being thrashed on the waters

But nevertheless refusing consumption,

The waterlogged boat

Overused, windblown, ripped sails

Beheld by a fearless sailor

The boat of my visitor

To come through the eyes of my watchtower

And be sighted at this ungodly hour.

Voice two: Jack the Sailor

I crane my neck to see the luminous moon

And the loyal stars that guide my way

But it's blinded by the mischievous clouds

And a troublesome misty gloom

Weather turned evil.

Current navigation system is medieval.

Just follow the fickle winds this time,

And the cacophonous waves

Let them carry me to shore...

I see it!

A promising flash of light in the horizon

The light of my savior,

Who sacrifices life and limb over the inclement weather

Tending the oil lamps without a wink of sleep

Keeping a wary eye out to any lost fishermen

And reeling them inland to safety

Bottled misery pouring out as relieved hope

I have the strength to push onward

I row and row like never before

With revitalized vigor and power.
